The Karnataka government is like an ATM for the Congress to indulge in corruption,” said BJP National President Shri Amit Shah, who was on a two-day Pravas to the old Mysuru region of Karnataka from 30 March, 2018 in the fourth leg of his campaign in the state for the upcoming assembly elections. He added people were disappointed with the Siddaramaiah government on several fronts, especially corruption.
Shri Shah, during his two-day Pravas in Mysuru, Mandya and Ramanagara districts, said BJP would put up a good show during the polls in the old Mysuru region. Addressing a meeting at Channapatna, he said, “Without removing the corrupt and number one corrupt Siddaramaiah government, Karnataka’s progress is not possible.”
Charging that the relationship between Congress and corruption is akin to that of water and fish, the BJP National President said that the people of Karnataka had made up their minds to “throw out” the Siddaramaiah government in the May 12 Assembly polls.
As Shri Shah questioned the gathering whether they get 24 hours of power supply, there was employment for youth and hospitals in villages, the crowd responded saying, “No.” Shri Shah said “…If you say no for everything, what is the Siddaramaiah government doing?”
Calling the Narendra Modi government a power generating company, the BJP President said the Karnataka government should work like a transformer. “But the transformer here in Bengaluru is burnt, what you should do with a burnt transformer. Don’t just change it, root out this Siddaramaiah government and bring BJP government under the leadership of Yeddyurappa,” he said.
Shri Shah told the Channapatna rally that in the last few days he met arecanut, coconut, coffee growers and traders. “From the time the Siddaramaiah government came to power, there is unhappiness everywhere among farmers. Farmers of Karnataka are sad.”
In the last four years more than 3,500 farmers have committed suicide across the state, Shri Shah said. He also promised various initiatives for the silk industry like increasing subsidy, along with marketing chain across the state for handicrafts, which the region is famous for.
‘UPA government rejected a proposal of giving minority status to Lingayats in 2013’
Addressing a press conference in Mysuru, Karnataka on 31 March, 2018 Shri Amit Shah said JD(S) was not in a position to form a government because it can only win a few seats and BJP was the only party which can defeat Congress.
Charging that all parameters of development under the Siddaramaiah government were on the ebb, he said, “Though Bengaluru is mopping up revenue in good numbers, it is not percolating down to smaller cities and villages.”
On farmers’ suicides, Shri Shah said “As many as 3,500 farmers have committed suicide and Siddaramaiahji is terming these as minor incidents. In my political life, I have never come across such an irresponsible statement on farmers’ suicides.”
To a query, the BJP President said the Congress government in the state was raking up the issue of religious minority tag for Lingayats to prevent B S Yeddyurappa from becoming Chief Minister after the polls and for dividing the community.
Shri Yeddyurappa is a Lingayat strongman and the BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate for the coming Karnataka Assembly polls. “This is a nefarious strategy of the Siddaramaiah government for political gains. Had Siddaramaiahji been serious about giving minority status to Lingayats, he should have done it in the early stages of his five-year term. Why now after four-and-a-half years?” Shri Shah said.
Shri Shah said that the Congress led UPA government had rejected a similar proposal of giving minority status to Lingayats in 2013.
Asked about the BJP-led central government’s stand on the minority tag to Lingayats, Shri Amit Shah said, “We haven’t yet received the proposal in the administrative format. Why don’t you ask this state government why it has not sent it so far?”
BJP does not raise such emotional issues during elections as any comment on it highly impacts voters, he said, adding that his party would make its stand on the matter known after the polls.

‘Farmer suicides in BJP-ruled states very low’
BJP National President Shri Amit Shah accused the Congress government of Karnataka being anti-farmer and not doing enough to solve the agrarian issues in the state.
Addressing a meeting of Organic Farmers and Co-Operatives in Mandya on 01 April, 2018 the BJP President said the Congress-led Karnataka government is anti-farmer and indifferent to the agrarian crisis in the state while the number of farmer suicides in BJP-ruled states across the country has been very low.
“There have been BJP governments in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for the last 15 years and the number of farmer suicides in these states has been very low. The suicide cases that have been registered were due to depression and farmers’ personal issues,” said Shri Shah.
“We are often told by the opposition parties that there are rampant farmer suicides in the country but I would like to inform you that there have been BJP governments in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for the last 15 years and the number of farmers committing suicides in these states has been very low. Suicides by farmers have mainly happened due to depression and personal issues,” Shri Shah addressing the rally said.
The BJP President also said that the farmer-friendly schemes launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi have been crucial for ensuring a better future for farmers. “Recently, PM Modi announced the decision to provide the MSP (Minimum Support Price) which shall be one and a half times the input cost for any agricultural produce for both Rabi and Kharif crops. No government since India’s independence dared to take such a decision,” he said.
Remarking on the condition of farmers in BJP-ruled Maharashtra, Shri Amit Shah said suicides by farmers in Maharashtra have reduced by 30 per cent ever since the BJP came to power.
Addressing the media persons at a press conference in Davanagere city the BJP National President also criticized the Congress-led Karnataka government of being anti-farmer. He said wherever there is a Congress-ruled government, the number of farmer suicides increases, and in whichever state ruled by the BJP, the number of farmer suicides decreases, the BJP president said.
STATEWIDE “MUSHTI DHANYA SANGRAH ABHIYANA”
In Chinnenahalli Village of Srirangapatna district Mandya, Karnataka Shri Amit Shah joined the statewide door to door campaign of “Mushti Dhanya Sangrah Abhiyana” .
On the occasion he said, “The people of Karnataka have made up their minds to throw out the Siddaramaiah government. They are disappointed with it on many fronts, with corruption being the main issue, he said”.
He said the JD-S was not in a position to form a government because it can only win a few seats, and the BJP was the only party which can defeat the Congress. The BJP would put up a good show during the polls in the old Mysuru region, he added.
