Finance Minister said direct income tax collection doubled in last 5 years

Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman said income tax collection has doubled over the last 5 years. She was addressing a function to celebrate the Income Tax Day today. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the larger principle behind taxation is better and equitous redistribution of wealth.

Smt. Sitharaman emphasized on the importance of widening the tax base. For that, all the departments of income tax should work together in tandem. She also reminded the officials regarding the need of building trust with the tax payers. Tax avoidance and tax evasion should be decreased with coordinated action and use of technology, she added.

Minister launched e journal named ‘taxalogue’ on the occasion, which will facilitate tax related discussions. Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Mos Finance and Corporate affairs launched the publicity kit developed by the income tax department for outreach programmes.
