A Member of first Lok Sabha, Kamal Singh passes away

Senior BJP leader and a member of the country’s first Lok Sabha Shri Kamal Singh passed away at the age of 94 years after a prolonged illness. He was last Maharaja of the erstwhile Dumraon Estate.

Shri Singh passed away on January 5, 2020 at his residence at Dumraon town in Bihar’s Buxar district.Shri Singh was elected to the first and the second Lok Sabha in 1952 and 1957 as an independent candidate from Buxar constituency. Later, he joined Jana Sangh and contested Lok Sabha election again unsuccessfully in 1989 and 1991 as the BJP candidate from Buxar seat.

Bihar Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar and several other politicians expressed their grief over demise of Shri Singh. Government of Bihar announced state funeral for Kamal Singh. He was cremated with full state honour on the bank of Ganga river in Buxar on January 6.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sushil Kumar Modi and present Buxar MP and Union Health State Minister Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey also expressed their profound grief over death of Singh. Deputy CM Shri Sushil Modi said “Former MP Kamal Bahadur Singh will always be remembered for his distinguished contribution in various areas of society, especially in the fields of education and health. His death is irreparable loss in political and social field. We pray to God for the peace of the departed soul and give his family and well-wishers strength to bear this sorrow.”
