Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated the 60-MW Tuirial Hydro Electric Power Project near Kolasib in Mizoram to the nation from Aizawl on December 16. The project has made Mizoram the third power-surplus state in the region after Tripura and Sikkim.
The earthfill and gravity dam over Tuirial river has been constructed as a central sector project and implemented by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (Neepco) under the administrative control of the ministry of power. The first unit was commissioned on August 25 and the second one on November 28 this year.
