‘Congress Spreading lies about CAA’

While launching the campaign in Vaishali, Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) BJP National Working President Shri JP Nadda mounted a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who has opposed the CAA.

Shri Nadda challenged Rahul Gandhi to “speak 10 lines about CAA and say two lines on what he opposes in amended Citizenship Act”.

The BJP Working President said the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is about giving citizenship to people and not vice-versa, and that BJP had fulfilled the promises made by Congress leaders since independence.

Shri Nadda, who was in the city to launch BJP’s door-to-door campaign in support of the CAA, said Mahatma Gandhi in 1947 had also said it was the responsibility of the Indian government to provide shelter and jobs to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians facing atrocities in Pakistan.

“The country was divided on the lines of religion by Congress in 1947. Lakhs of people were displaced and came to India. It was the biggest transfer of population,” said Shri Nadda.

He added that Jawaharlal Nehru had said in 1950 that the central relief fund should be utilised for people facing atrocities in Pakistan. In 2003, when Shri LK Advani was Home Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh too had raised concerns over the issue, he said.

Rejecting criticism of the CAA, Shri Nadda said the Liaquat-Nehru pact had stated that East Pakistan (Bangladesh) and West Pakistan will protect their minorities, and India would also follow the same rule.

“We protected Muslims. Many of them became President, Vice-President, Chief Justice, Governor and Chief Minister in our country. Their population here rose. But in Pakistan, which became an Islamic state, the minorities’ population decreased,” he said.

Shri JP Nadda, who was addressing BJP Karyakartas at Hindi Bhawan, said Dalit leaders are playing into the hands of the opposition and aren’t aware of the Act. “Do they know many people who come from Pakistan and Bangladesh are Dalits? We are bringing you into the mainstream and you are harming your own interest,” he said.
He also accused Congress of ‘spreading misinformation’ and challenged its leader Rahul Gandhi to speak 10 lines on the CAA. He asserted that the BJP is only party “free of dynastic politics and based on ideology”.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has launched a support campaign for the Citizenship Amendment Act. The party aims to reach out to 3 crore people in the 10-day campaign. BJP leaders are going from door-to-door to talk about the law. The party is also conducting rallies in different parts of the country to inform people “how the Congress and other Opposition parties are spreading lies about the CAA and inciting rebellion and anarchy in the country for their politics of appeasement.
