Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is on a three-day visit to the United States. Though Shri Modi has made several visits to the U.S. as Prime Minister but he had also made a couple of visits to America in the 1990s as an ordinary BJP leader.
On one such visit in 1997, he lost his bag. The incident revealed his composed demeanour and strong sense of integrity to his hosts in the US.

He was the guest for an event of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. After the event, when he arrived at his host’s residence, he looked to take out his bag from the car, only to discover that it was missing. Seemed to have been stolen, the bag contained his passport, money, and even his cloths.

Recalling Shri Narendra Modi’s composure during the incident, Shri Hirubhai Patel, an NRI who was with him says, “Despite the stressful situation, Shri Narendra Modi remained calm and reassured everyone not to worry, demonstrating his ability to stay composed under pressure.”

Shri Modi spent the next five days at his host’s home, patiently awaiting an arrangment for a passport.

Before departing, he humbly requested a loan of some dollars to cover expenses, as his money had also been stolen. Shri Narendra Modi assured his hosts that he would repay the amount to the relatives of his host in India, which he got done immediately within next few days. It shows how Shri Modi deals the crisis situation with atmost patience.
