PM Modi Story By : Ashok Bhatt
As the country is writing new stories of cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat campaign initiated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, his resolution for cleanliness dates back to his childhood when PM Shri Modi was always resolute about clean surrounding. From cleaning his shoes with a piece of cloth before entering the school or sweeping the party office, Shri Narendra Modi’s resolution for cleanliness was always like a pillar of strength for him.
Here is an incident from his younger days where many see his act of cleanliness as a foundation of today’s Swachh Bharat campaign.
It was in the year 1989, Shri Narendra Modi was visiting Junagadh as the State Organization Secretary of Gujarat BJP. He was supposed to meet some district level workers at the Junagadh party office. The BJP office in Junagadh was at the outskirts of the city, it was actually the residence of Acharya Ji which was later converted into the party office.
Since the office was at the outskirts of the city, no worker used to go there daily and clean it. Whenever there was a meeting, few workers would visit the office in the morning, clean it, make some arrangements and then meeting was held. But this time, Shri Narendra Modi’s program was unscheduled.
Shri Modi asked a party worker Shri Ashok Bhatt to take him to the office. Shri Bhatt drove him to the office on his scooter. When Shri Modi entered the party office with Shri Bhatt, he saw a dirty office. He didn’t say anything to Shri Bhatt but asked for a broom. Shri Bhatt tried to explain that no one had visited the office for 2-3 days that is why it was dirty, but he refused to listen to him and again asked for the broom.
Shri Bhatt realized that PM Shri Modi was not happy at a dirty party office. He then asked Shri Modi to stand on one side and got the office cleaned there.
Shri Ashok Bhatt and many other party workers now remember such incidents with Shri Narendra Modi and realize that the foundation of Swachh Bharat comes from those times when Shri Modi was equally concerned about the cleanliness even decades ago from the launch of the Swachh Bharat campaign.
