There is no rule of law in West Bengal: Sukanta Majumdar

Against the heinous crime of the Rape-Murder of a female doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College in Kolkata, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party called a 12-hour “Bangla Bandh” on 28 August 2024. With the spontaneous support of the people from all sections of society; particularly the women, the Bandh was hugely successful in the state. Police detained thousands of people across the state, including several BJP leaders and workers. A large member of BJP workers came out on the road for the bandh. They took huge rallies and shouted slogans against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her TMC government; under whose rule the law and order of the state had completely collapsed and women’s safety was under severe question mark.

The State BJP leadership said the bandh was a huge success and wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah on the deteriorating law and order situation.
Later, addressing the press, the BJP severely criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly issuing threats to protesting doctors, North-Eastern, and other neighboring states during a public address at the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) foundation day event on 28 August 2024.

Mamata Banerjee making Inciting speeches: Sukanta Majumdar

Bengal BJP President Shri Sukanta Majumdar penned a letter to Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, condemning Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for delivering inciting speeches at the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad’s rally on Mayo Road. Shri Majumdar called for prompt and decisive action to protect the interests of Bengal’s citizens.

Shri Majumdar accused the Chief Minister of trying to incite the crowd by urging them to take action, suggesting that revenge politics was being driven by the state’s top office. He said that her remarks about North-East, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi were detrimental to the federal structure and national interest.

He said there is no rule of law in West Bengal, only complete anarchy. It’s shocking that the state’s Chief Minister is a woman, yet when protests are held against crimes targeting women, she responds with lathi charges, water cannons, and tear gas.
Shri Majumdar emphasized that there is no rule of law in West Bengal and it is the duty of public servants, especially those in high authority, to foster peace and discourage violence.

Don’t try to incite India with your politics of failure: Himanta Biswa Sarma

The Assam Chief Minister, Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma also criticised his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee for threatening Assam with potential unrest. Shri Sarma said CM Mamata Banerjee is provoking the public in North East states to obscure her own shortcomings. “Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don’t show your anger to us,” Shri Sarma wrote on X, accompanying his post with a 46-second video clip of her provoking speech.

He said, “Don’t even try to incite India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language.”

Publicly apologize to the Northeast: N Biren Singh

Manipur Chief Minister Shri N Biren Singh also criticized the Bengal CM. In a tweet, the CM said, “How dare Didi threaten the Northeast? I condemn such irresponsible remarks in the strongest terms. She must publicly apologize to the Northeast and the rest of the nation.” “@MamataOfficial Ji must immediately stop inciting violence and hatred with divisive politics. It is highly unbecoming of a political leader to issue threats of violence on a public platform,” he added further.
