BJP Alliance Sweeps Guwahati Municipal Corporation Election; Congress Draws Blank

The BJP and its allies swept the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections on 24 April 2022, which were held after a gap of nine years. Out of total 60 wards, the BJP-AGP alliance won 58 wards (of the 58 seats, 3 candidate are elected unopposed). Both AAP and AJP managed to win one ward each. Altogether 197 candidates were in the fray in 57 wards.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and BJP National President Shri JP Nadda congratulated Assam BJP for it’s sweeping victory in Guwahati Municipal Elections 2022.

Chief Minister Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma led the BJP’s election campaign, addressing multiple rallies across the city.

After the victory, the CM tweeted, “I bow my head to the people of Guwahati for giving @BJP4Assam & its allies a historic win in #GMCElections. With this massive mandate, people have reaffirmed their faith on our development journey under the guidance of Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi ji.
