Late Shri D Surya Prakash Reddy joined RSS at a very young age. He served as RSS district Bouddhika Pramukh. He actively participated in drought relief operations conducted by RSS in Rayalaseema in the drought affected area during 1950-51. He actively participated in the expansion of the Jana Sangh party from the initial days of its formation of in Andhra Pradesh. He was jailed as a MISA detainee during the emergency period in 1975. He got elected as an MLC from jail. He was the first state president of Bharatiya Janata party in 1980.
