Former Karnataka Speaker Chandre Gowda passes away

Former minister and BJP leader D B Chandre Gowda on November 7 passed away at his residence in Daradahalli in Mudigere taluk in the district on , due to age-related ailments. The 87-year-old is survived by his wife and four daughters. Shri Gowda had represented all the four Houses — legislative assembly, council, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Expressing condolence via X on the demise of the leader Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that that he was anguished by the passing away of Shri Gowda. He said, he was a stalwart leader in public service, his vast experience as an MP, MLA and Minister in Karnataka has left an indelible mark.

He added, “His deep understanding of our Constitution and commitment to social service was remarkable. My heartfelt condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti”.

Shri Gowda, who served as a minister in various governments, also served as Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, from 1983 to 1985, and also as a Leader of the Opposition in both the Legislative Assembly and Council.

The BJP National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda said, while expressing condolence, “Saddened by the passing away of former BJP MP and veteran leader Shri DB Chandre Gowda Ji. His long political career was marked by utmost devotion and commitment to public service. His contributions as a public representative will be remembered for a long time. My heartfelt condolences to his family members in this hour of grief.”

Former Chief Ministers Shri B S Yediyurappa, Shri Basavaraj Bommai and Shri H D Kumaraswamy also expressed grief over Gowda’s passing away.
