India Celebrates 77th Independence Day

Earlier, August 15 and January 26 functions used to be a nightmare for common people due to strikes, restrictions and fear in Jammu & Kashmir, however, it seems there was festivity in the air this Independence Day throughout the Valley. The Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar hosted the Independence Day event this year after a gap of around 5 years. The refurbished Bakshi stadium in Srinagar saw a huge rush of people, who had come to witness the Independence Day celebrations.

Jammu & Kashmir LG Shri Manoj Sinha hoisted the national flag at the main event held on 15 August inside the stadium. Thousands of people thronged to the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar to celebrate the 77th Independence Day after a gap of almost two decades. People of all ages carrying national flags filled the stands at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. As per reports, this was the largest gathering of civilians at the Bakshi stadium after decades.

Addressing the huge gathering, Shri Sinha said, “An era of peace and development has dawned on Jammu & Kashmir. This is visible in the change of mindset of the common citizen who has been proactively contributing towards peace and development in the UT. ”

Similarly, numerous schools commenced their day with flag hoisting ceremonies. As per the reports people from across the union territory were seen attending the event and this year festivities were everywhere in the UT. There were long queues of people who were seen waving the Tricolour at the iconic Lal Chowk. The clock tower was illuminated in the colours of the national flag.
