PM holds roadshow & files nomination from Varanasi, UP
The holy city Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh offered an electrifying welcome to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during his spectacular roadshow held just a day before his filing of nomination papers in the city on 13 May 2024. The five-kilometer-long roadshow commenced with PM Shri Modi paying floral tributes at the statue of Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya at the Singh Dwar of Vanarash Hindu University and the roadshow came to an end after over two and a half hours of operation at Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP state president Shri Bhupendra Singh also accompanied Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion.
As the convoy made its way through the streets, lakhs of people, chanting “Har-Har Mahadev,” “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” and “Modi-Modi,” gathered to catch a glimpse of the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
Shri Modi later shared on social media platform X, “The love and blessings I received from all of you during the roadshow are incomparable and unparalleled. I am overwhelmed and filled with emotions! Ten years have passed in the shade of your affection, without even realising it. Back then, I had said that Maa Ganga had called me. Today, Maa Ganga has embraced me”.
Reflecting on the vibrant atmosphere, he added, “The enthusiastic participation from people of all ages and walks of life, from children to the elderly, and from women to my young companions, has left an indelible mark on my heart.”
FILES NOMINATION FROM VARANASI
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has filed his nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh on 14 May, 2024. Before filing his nomination, the Prime Minister also performed religious rituals, offered prayers at Dashwamedh Ghat, and took a symbolic dip in the holy waters of Maa Ganga. This also sets the stage for the upcoming electoral battle in Varanasi, with voting scheduled for June 1, marking the concluding phase of the Lok Sabha polls.
Nearly 25 prominent attendees were present at the nomination process including BJP National President Shri JP Nadda, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah, BJP National General Secretary (Org.) Shri BL Santhosh, several NDA leaders and chief ministers Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Nitish Kumar of Bihar, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami of Uttarakhand, Shri Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai of Chhattisgarh, Shri Eknath Shinde of Maharashtra, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma of Rajasthan, Shri Hemant Biswa Sharma of Assam, Shri Nayab Singh Saini of Haryana, Shri Pramod Sawant of Goa, Shri Prem Singh Tamang of Sikkim, and Shri Manik Saha of Tripura.
Varanasi holds a special place in the political landscape of India, being a bastion for the BJP and PM Shri Modi himself, who secured victories in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections from this constituency. In the 2019 elections, PM Shri Modi clinched victory in Varanasi with a substantial margin, gaining over 6,74,664 votes with an impressive vote share of 63.6 percent. Notably, in 2014, Shri Narendra Modi contested from two Lok Sabha constituencies, securing victories in both Vadodara, Gujarat, and Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Shri Modi also shared glimpses of his previous nomination filings and said that his relationship with Kashi is special. “My relationship with my Kashi is special, inseparable and incomparable. All I can say is that it cannot be expressed in words!” Shri Modi said on X.
