Senior BJP leader and former Governor of Gujarat OP Kohli passes away

Senior BJP leader and former Governor of Gujarat Shri Om Prakash Kohli passed away after a brief illness in Noida on 20 February. He was 87 years old.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi took to Twitter to condole the demise. “Saddened by the passing away of Shri OP Kohli Ji. He played a key role in strengthening our Party in Delhi. As MP and Governor, he focused on issues of public welfare. He was also passionate about the education sector. My thoughts are with his family. Om Shanti,” tweeted Prime Minister Shri Modi.

The BJP National President Shri JP Nadda expressing condolence on the demise of the leader said in a tweet, “The news of the demise of senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party, former Governor of Gujarat Om Prakash Kohli ji is very sad. Your devotion to organization building, democratic values and service to the society will always be exemplary. May God give place to the departed soul at his lotus feet. Om Shanti!”

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah condoled the demise and said “Received the sad news of the demise of former Governor of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and senior BJP leader Om Prakash Kohli. Kohli ji’s life as a teacher, worker and administrator was inspiring to all. I express my condolences to his family members in this hour of grief. Om Shanti Shanti”

Union Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh said, “Shri OP Kohliji in his long public life earned a lot of respect for his efficiency and scholarship. He was the Governor of Gujarat and also played an effective role in strengthening the BJP in Delhi. I am deeply saddened by his death. May God give strength to his family.”

Shri Kohli, a former president of the party’s Delhi unit, was unwell for the past two to three months. His last rites was performed at the Nigam Bodh Ghat on 21 February.

Shri Kohli was the 19th Governor of Gujarat between 2014 and 2019. He also held the additional charge as Governor of Madhya Pradesh from 2016 to 2018 and as the Goa governor for three weeks in 2014. Shri Kohli also served as the BJP’s Central Office Secretary, Parliamentary Party Office Secretary, and President of the Delhi BJP unit.
