Basavaraj Bommai Becomes New Chief Minister of Karnataka

The Karnataka BJP Legislature Party on 27 July elected Shri Basavaraj Bommai as its new leader as Shri Bommai succeeded Chief Minister Shri B.S. Yediyurappa. The proposal to elect Shri Basavaraj Bommai was made by senior BJP leader Shri B.S. Yediyurappa and was supported by Shri Govind Karjol, Shri R. Ashok, Shri K.S. Eshwarappa, Shri B. Sriramulu, Shri S.T. Somashekar, and Shri Poornima Srinivas.

61-year-old Shri Bommai was Minister for Home Affairs, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislature in Yediyurappa’s council of ministers. The legislature party meeting to elect the new leader took place in the presence of Union Ministers Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and Shri G. Kishan Reddy who were appointed as central observers by BJP’s parliamentary board. It was attended by BJP National General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka Shri Arun Singh, State President Shri Nalin Kumar Kateel, National General Secretary Shri C.T. Ravi, among others.

Chief Minister Shri Basavaraj Bommai along with 29 legislators was sworn in as ministers on August 4 at Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru. The ministers who took oath are Shri Govind Karjol,Shri K. S. Eshwarappa, Shri R. Ashok, Shri B. Sriramulu, Shri V. Sommanna, Shri Umesh Katti, Shri S. Angara, Shri J. C. Madhu Swamy,Shri Araga Jnanendra, Shri C .N. Ashwath Narayan, Shri C. C. Patil, Shri Anand Singh, Shri Kota Srinivas Poojary, Prabhu Chauhan,Shri Murugesh Nirani,Shri Shivaram Hebbar ,Shri S. T. Somashekar, Shri B.C. Patil, Shri Byrathi Basavaraj, K. Sudhakar, Shri K. Gopalaiah, Shri Shashikala Jolle,Shri Nagaraj, Dr. K. C. Narayan Gowda ,Shri B. C. Nagesh, Shri V. Sunil Kumar, Shri A.H. Basappa, Shri Shankar B. Patil Munenakoppa and Shri Muniratna.
