The Election Commission of India announced the date of the upcoming Himachal Pradesh Assembly election on 14 October, 2022. As per the announcement, the Assembly election will be held on 12 November, 2022 and the counting of votes will be done on 08 December.

BJP National President welcomes poll announcements in Himachal

The Bharatiya Janata Party welcomed the Election Commission’s announcement of assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh and said the party is geared up for the November 12 polling.

BJP National President Shri JP Nadda in a tweet said, ‘I welcome to the announcement of Himachal Assembly elections by the Election Commission.’ He said elections are the biggest festival of democracy and it is a medium to keep the country and the state on the path of development and good governance. I appeal to the people of the state to elect a government that contributes to the progress and progress of the state.’

More than 43,000 first time voters will participate in the state Assembly polls. The ECI said that the date of issue of gazette notification for single phase election for 68 Assembly seats will be released on 17 October. While the last date of making nominations has been set as 25 October. The scrutiny of nominations will take place

on 27 October, while the last date for withdrawal of candidatures has been set as 29 October.

Last time, the Assembly elections in Himachal took place on 9 November, 2017, where BJP defeated the Congress and won 44 seats. Congress managed to secure only 21 seats.

As per the electoral roll published on 10 October, over 55 lakh electors are registered, out of which over 1.22 lakh are 80+ senior citizens and 1.86 lakh first-time voters in Himachal Pradesh.

For the smooth conduct of polls, the ECI will set up 7,881 polling stations across 68 Assembly seats. Around 142 polling stations will be operated by women and 37 polling stations will be operated by Divyang people.

BJP releases first list of candidates for Assembly Election


The meeting of the Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party was held on 18 October, 2022 under the chairmanship of BJP National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda to finalise the names of the candidates for the upcoming Assembly Election in Himachal Pradesh.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Home Minister Shri Amit Shah and other members of the Central Election Committee were present in the meeting. The Central Election Committee has also given its approval on the names of the candidates for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections 2022. On 19 October, 2022 the BJP released its first list of 62 candidates.

Noteworthy, currently in the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly, the BJP has 45 MLAs while the Congress has 22 and CPIM has 1 MLA.
