The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced immediate financial assistance worth 325 crore rupees to provide relief material to cyclone Ockhi affected Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi made immediate visit to Poonthura on December 19, one of the worst-affected fishing hamlets along Kerala’s southern coast from cyclone Ockhi, where he met families of dead and missing fishermen and promised all possible help from the Centre to help them tide over the tragedy.
Shri Modi assured that all assistance will be given to them. He said the search for the missing fishermen will continue and hoped that all would reach safe home before Christmas. The Prime Minister visited Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu and Kerala to meet cyclone Ockhi affected people and reviewed relief and rehabilitation work. The Centre will support the reconstruction of around 1400 houses fully damaged due to Cyclone Ockhi under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and each beneficiary will get up to 1.5 lakh rupees.
