PRAMOD SAWANT TAKES OATH AS GOA CM

In the gracious presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, BJP National President Shri JP Nadda, Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states, Union Ministers and other dignitaries Shri Pramod Sawant on March 28, 2022 took oath as Chief Minister of Goa for the second consecutive term.

Eight other cabinet ministers also took oath of office. The ministers who were sworn-in include Valpoi MLA Shri Vishwajit Rane, Dabolim MLA Shri Mauvin Godinho, Ponda MLA Shri Ravi Naik, Curchorem MLA Shri Nilesh Cabral, Shiroda MLA Shri Subhash Shirodkar, Porvorim MLA Shri Rohan Khaunte, Panaji MLA Shri Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate and Priol MLA Shri Govind Gaude.

Goa governor Shri P S Sreedharan Pillai administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chief Minister and the newly inducted ministers.

The one-of-a-kind swearing ceremony of the new BJP government was held at Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Stadium in Taleigao, in the presence of thousands of people. This is BJP’s third consecutive term in Goa.

Pramod Sawant elected as Goa BJP legislative party leader

Dr. Pramod Sawant was elected as the leader of the legislative party following a meeting of all newly elected MLAs in the presence of Union Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, who had been appointed observer by the BJP for Goa. Shri Vishwajit Rane proposed the name of Shri Pramod Sawant as the Leader of the Legislative Party. Everyone unanimously elected Shri Sawant as the Leader. He will be the Leader of the Legislative Party for the next 5 years,” said Shri Narendra Singh Tomar.

“I want to thank PM Shri Narendra Modi and Union HM Shri Amit Shah to have given me the opportunity to work as the CM of Goa for next 5 years. I am glad that the people of Goa have accepted me. I’ll do everything possible to work for development of the state,” Goa CM Shri Pramod Sawant said after becoming the Legislative Party leader. Ahead of the swearing-in, Shri Pramod Sawant also handed over the order for appointing Council of Ministers to Hon’ble Goa Governor at Raj Bhawan.

Noteworthy, the BJP got a hat-trick and returned to power repeatedly for the third time in Goa by winning 20 seats in the recently concluded Assembly elections. BJP secured 33.31 per cent vote share, while Congress party bagged 11 seats with 23.46 per cent vote share.

After the swearing-in PM Shri Narendra Modi congratulated Dr. Pramod Sawant on taking oath as Goa Chief Minister.

PRAMOD SAWANT: Life Sketch

Shri Pramod Sawant was born on 24 April, 1973 to Shri Pandurang and Smt. Padmini Sawant.

He obtained a Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery degree from Ayurvedic Medical College in Kolhapur and a postgraduate degree of Master of Social Work from the Tilak University at Pune, Maharashtra.

He won the 2012 assembly election from Sanquelim constituency.

In 2017 he was re-elected to the Goa Legislative Assembly from the same constituency and he was elected as the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly.

After the demise of Shri Manohar Parrikar, the seat of the Chief Minister of Goa fell vacant. Dr. Pramod Sawant was elected by the Legislative Assembly afterwards and later he was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Goa on 19 March, 2019.

After the hat-trick victory and BJP’s return to power repeatedly for the third time in Goa by winning 20 seats in the recently concluded Assembly elections, Shri Pramod Sawant once again became the Chief Minister successively for the second time in Goa.
